Our review team’s synopsis of customer reviews:
Pros: First and foremost, comfort. Of all the pumps we reviewed, the Playtex Embrace got the highest marks for overall comfort. The cups are made of a soft, gel like material and most women who use this pump rave about them. Many reports that this pump really cuts down on how hard the nipples are pulled during pumping. Overall satisfaction with the amount of milk it draws out at each session. Many reports that the pump is very good at “cool down” toward the end of the pumping session.
Cons: Several reports that the durability of the motor is not the best and some reports that there were multiple issues with the motor even after having it replaced through warranty. Some reports that the milk storage design makes it difficult to get every drop out and therefore a small amount of milk gets wasted during every pumping session. Because of this design flaw, it is also reported that cleaning the cups is somewhat difficult.
Our recommendation: The majority of the reports were very positive, even glowing. However, there are enough bad reports that make us wonder if there may be quality control issues with the manufacturing. The units that work well, (and most seem to according to reports), work extremely well. The ones that don’t seem to have numerous problems. Because there is a strong one year warranty offered by Playtex, and because the majority of reports were positive, we recommend this product. Just be aware that there’s a chance you may be making use of that warranty.
